H.E. Mor Dionysius Geevarghese was born in the Vattamalakkunnel–Karimbil family at Pampady, Kottayam on 5 May 1948 to Philipose and Mariam. H.G's education was at the Pampady M.G.M. School and the Baselios College at Kottayam. He was ordained Korooyo by the Patriarchal delegate Mor Timotheos Aphrem Aboodi at Majanikkara Dayro. In 1974, H.G. Mor Gregorios Geevarghese (Perumpilly Thirumeni) ordained him Kassisso. Late lamented Metropolitan of Majanikkara Dayro Metropolitan Mor Yulios Yakub ordained him Ramban. He was the Vicar of the Arthat St. Mary's Simhasana Church at Kunnamkulam, St.Ignatius Church at Erumaely, St.Simon Church at Velloor and St.Mary’s Church at Koruthodu. Being an eminent Syriac Scholar he served as Malpan at the Majanikkara Dayro and and at the Theological Seminary at Udayagiri. Many of the priests in Kottayam and nearby areas had their liturgical and theological studies under him. His Grace had his Syriac education under late Mor Yulius Yakub Metropolitan and Very.Rev. Alexandrayos Corepiscopa Kadavumbhagam. In recognition of his Syriac scholarship, H.H the Patriarch Mor Ignatius Zakka I awarded him with the title “Masbolono Tobo”. In April 2000 he converted the ancestral house at Pampady as a Dayro in the name of Patriarch St. Ignatius Elias III of blessed memory. A chapel was also constructed nearby in the name of Mor Geevarghese Sahada. On 8 December 2002, His Holiness the Patriarch of Antioch and all the East Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I ordained Ramban Geevarghese by name Dionysius (Deevannasios) at the St.George Cathedral, Damascus, Syria and was appointed Assistant metropolitan of Simhasana churches under Metropolitan Mor Yulius Kuriakose. On April 21, 2007, H.E Mor Dionysius Geevarghese was entrusted by His Holiness the Patriarch with the independent charge of Simhasana Churches at Kottayam and its environs; the official designation being the ‘Simhasana Metropolitan of Kottayam & Environs’. In addition to the above Simhasana Churches / Institutions, His Eminence also hold charge of the St. Elias III Dayro in Pampady, and its St. George Simhasana Church. His Holiness the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I through the Patriarchal Bull # E 352/07 dated November 07, 2007 promoted His Eminence as metropolitan of Mor Ignatios Dayro and also as the President of its Administrative committee with effect from November 16, 2007. H.E. Mor Athanasius Geevarghese was born in the Eralil family of Ayyampilly on 12 October 1957 to Late G. Korah and Susan Korah. He was baptized by name Varghese. H.G's school education was at the Rozaris School at Thoppumpady and the St.John’s School at Thrikkakkara. In 1979 he passed out from the St.Alberts College at Ernakulam in B.Sc. Physics. Later he joined A A Menon & Associates at Ernakulam as a Chartered Accountant Student and successfully completed the course. Though a Chartered Accountant by profession he was more inclined towards Priesthood. On 15 October 1990 H.G. Dr. Thomas Mor Osthatheos ordained him Korooyo at the Ayyampilly St.Gregorios Chapel. On 9 January 1993, he was ordained Kassisso again at the blessed hands of Dr. Thomas Mor Osthatheos Metropolitan at the Kyomtha Seminary Chapel, Thiruvankulam. From 1993 to '94 he served as the Vicar of St. George church at Cherai and later as the vicar of his home parish, the St. John’s church at Ayyampilly. On 15 August 1997 he was ordained Ramban (Dayroyo) by H.H. Ignatius Zakka I Patriarch of Antioch at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Damascus and was appointed as the Abbot of the Malecuriz Dayro. From 1999, till his ordination as Metropolitan, he was at the Patriarchal Cathedral. On 8 December 2002, H.H. Ignatius Zakka I, the Patriarch of Antioch and all the East, ordained him Metropolitan by name 'Athanasius' at the Patriarchal Cathedral in Damascus. With the consent of His Holiness the Malankara Synod later appointed His Grace as Assistant Metropolitan for Thrissur diocese. When in 2005 H.G. Mor Julius Kuriakose relinquished the position of Patriarchal Vicar for Indian affairs at Damascus due to health problems, His Grace was appointed instead. In November 2007 His Grace returned to Malankara and took charge as the Assistant Metropolitan of Patriarchal churches at Kunnamkulam & environs (under Mor Julius Kuraikose) and the Manjinikkara Mor Ignatius Dayro (under Mor Dionysius Geevarghese).
